World Series Final Game Draws 51M Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various languages.
