The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
