Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
